Clarion awarded £26m to accelerate delivery of much-needed affordable homes

With 1.3 million families waiting for a social home, the funding through Homes England’s latest £2 billion Bridge Funding Programme will help unlock Clarion’s pipeline of more than 20,000 homes and support the government’s mission to tackle the housing crisis by delivering 1.5 million homes by the end of this Parliament.

Last year alone, Clarion delivered 1,727 new homes, with over 83% of these being affordable.

This latest injection will bridge the gap until the new Affordable Homes Programme is fully rolled out, ensuring momentum is maintained while accelerating affordable housing delivery nationwide.

Funding through the programme has already supported Clarion schemes across the country, from York to Plymouth and Manchester to Chichester. At York’s historic Rowntree’s Factory, Clarion has transformed the site into 279 apartments with landscaped gardens and restored heritage features. In Sherford, just outside Plymouth, Clarion is working with Vistry to deliver more than 1,200 homes in the latest phases of a new 5,500-home community, complete with schools, shops and green spaces.

Richard Cook, Chief Development Officer at Clarion Housing Group, said:

“We welcome this funding from Homes England and the opportunity it provides to keep building at pace ahead of the new Affordable Homes Programme.

“As the UK’s largest social landlord, we are proud of the progress we made last year, building over 1,700 homes – the vast majority being social homes. This investment will help us build on that success and deliver the homes families across the country so desperately need.”

Clarion is a Strategic Partner of Homes England and was shortlisted for ‘Homebuilder of the Year’ at the UK Housing Awards. With developments across the country, Clarion is at the forefront of delivering affordable homes at scale and building thriving communities for the long term.
