Fencing timber & garden product manufacturers, Fountain Timber, has turned a headache into heating by using its offcuts as fuel for two new, state-of-the-art Hargassner UK biomass boilers.
As a responsible manufacturer, Fountain Timber has been accredited to ISO14001 for several years, however disposing of offcuts from its busy saw mill was an ongoing concern. To solve this issue, whilst also cutting its heating bills and carbon footprint, the firm replaced its oil-fired air heaters with two Hargassner wood chip boilers. The first installed was a 199kW Hargassner HSV200 wood chip boiler which was specified to heat large joinery workshops and timber drying kilns. The second, a smaller 55kW Hargassner wood chip boiler which was ideal to heat the offices, shop and trade counter. Both were specified and installed by Aston Cord Energy.
Hargassner has been developing and manufacturing biomass boilers for over 30 years and its products offer outstanding performance, features and functionality. The HSV200 models installed at Fountain Timber include a fully refractory-lined high-temperature combustion chamber, automatic ash level indication and a lambda sensor with fuel quality detection, ensuring optimum combustion every time.
The premium design of the boilers will help to keep them in tip-top shape over the long-run, enabling maximum Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) returns. As a mark of confidence in this lasting performance, all Hargassner UK boilers are now available with industry leading 8 or 10 year warranties.
Steven Sutton, Managing Director of Fountain Timber commented: “The two new Hargassner boilers have allowed us to convert the heating requirements throughout our site and timber drying kilns to biomass produced entirely from our own manufacturing waste. This is a major step forward in reducing our carbon footprint and helps us maintain our ISO 14001 environmental accreditation. For many years we had considered this material worthless but today it helps us to save money, dispensing with the need to purchase heating oil and helping us to reduce our environmental impact. As part of our ongoing improvement plan, we have also taken this opportunity to improve the controls in our two kilns. This will make them more efficient and allow us to gain the most benefit from the investment in biomass.”
Hargassner UK has been supplying and installing biomass boilers within the UK for over a decade. The company’s team of in-house designers can advise on boiler applications up to 10MW; and skilled commissioning engineers have successfully installed over 120,000kW of renewable heating across more than 500 projects to date – with an after-sales service that ensures both optimum performance throughout the lifetime of a boiler and a guaranteed provision for the non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive.
